Edina is leading the way in distributed energy with the launch of its 2025 Renewable Energy Graduate Scheme.
This two-year programme gives graduates hands-on experience in our business through rotations across every department, including Sales, Tendering, Marketing, HR, Engineering, Project Management, and Asset Care. We aim to develop multi-skilled talent who understand the full customer journey, from first contact to ongoing support, and who can help drive our success from within.
According to EngineeringUK, approximately 70,845 students start engineering and technology degrees in the UK annually, with 7 in 10 engineering and technology graduates in paid employment 15 months after graduating.
Throughout 2024/25, across England, over 46,070 people also began engineering and manufacturing apprenticeships.
Despite strong entry numbers, graduates face barriers such as limited access to internships, gaps in practical skills and familiarity with new technologies, and intense competition, especially in specialist areas.
Misconceptions and stereotypes can discourage some candidates, especially women and minorities, who are still underrepresented. Job location and the demanding nature of engineering studies can also make it harder for some people to enter the field.
Right now, our graduates Will Banfield and Will Bloom are taking part in a planned rotation across the business. Each graduate spends about four weeks in each department, though some rotations last up to eight weeks, and the asset care department offers a 16-week rotation. This setup provides them with hands-on, on-site, and theoretical experience, helping them build a strong understanding of how our business operates.
Will Banfield said, “I’ve gained a valuable understanding of the energy industry, particularly how different teams within an EPC work together to deliver projects. Seeing how each function connects, with strong support along the way, has made it a great environment to learn and develop.”
Will Bloom commented, “I came from a business background, not engineering. The scheme’s 360‑degree structure means I’ve learned how a tender is priced, how HR supports project resourcing, and how marketing positions our on-site generation and battery storage solutions – all before choosing my long‑term path”.
Both graduates will complete their rotations in August 2027 and then move into permanent roles, most likely in project management, tendering, or asset optimisation, depending on their interests and the business's needs.
Victoria Keys, Associate Director of Human Resources, said, “Our two graduates have settled into the business very well and have made a positive impression during their initial period with us. Through rotations across different areas, they are gaining valuable experience and building a broad understanding of the organisation. They have shown a strong willingness to learn, contributing confidently and building strong working relationships. Their enthusiasm and proactive approach have been particularly encouraging, and they are already beginning to add meaningful value.”
The Renewable Energy Graduate Scheme is based at Edina’s headquarters in Stockport, UK and includes travel to project sites across the UK and Ireland. Applications for the 2027 cohort will open in early 2027.
We offer a competitive starting salary, plus enhanced pension and private healthcare. Mentorship from a senior leader, a dedicated buddy from a previous cohort, and full training within each department.
A degree in engineering, business, or environmental studies, or equivalent, is required. No prior work experience is needed. Candidates must have the right to work in the UK (visa sponsorship considered on a case‑by‑case basis).
Details of how to apply will be available at www.edina.eu/careers, and more information will be available in due course.
