Edina will be exhibiting at DataCentres Ireland 2021 on Tuesday 16th and Wednesday 17th November at the Royal Dublin Society (RDS), Dublin, Ireland.
Visitors to the Edina Stand 606 will meet our Technical Sales Engineers and discuss the suitability of low carbon reciprocating gas engine technology within data centre infrastructure. Gas engines provide smart flexible power, energy resilience, improved sustainability, and can alleviate grid constraints.
The growth in data centre investment has created challenges in project deployment, where Data Centre developers face the prospect of constraints in grid availability along with connection schedule uncertainty.
To ensure data centres continue to connect to the transmission system and deliver the benefits as outlined in the Irish governments ‘Data Centre Strategy’, and in response to the challenges highlighted above, the TSO in Ireland; EirGrid issued a data centre connection offer policy which includes flexible demand.
Flexible demand is the portion of a data centre’s electrical load that must be reduced on instruction from EirGrid via the National Control Centre (NCC). Where capacity availability in a particular area is constrained.
Having a flexible, power generating asset, allows the integration of more renewable power onto the grid. Utilising low carbon gas engine technology, will facilitate flexibility with the potential to generate additional revenue by taking part in Delivering a Secure, Sustainable Electricity System (DS3) grid services akin to flexible generation energy centres.
Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) can also add to the technology mix for flexibility and grid services.
Visit Edina at Stand 606 to discuss how we can assist your operation in meeting the challenges of grid flexibility and DS3 services, so we can all play our part in the transition towards zero carbon.
Edina is the official Ireland and UK distributor for MWM gas engines (a Caterpillar brand) with over 35 years industry in-market experience and has built over 500MWe worth of flexible generation energy centre projects within these territories.
