New MWM TCG 3016 gas engine - Efficiency goes digital

Nov 21, 2017

World renowned gas engine manufacturer MWM has announced the launch of the TCG 3016 gas engine.

More than just an iteration of its proven gas engine range, the TCG 3016 is an entirely new development which greatly reduces operating and installation costs and offers a fully digitised power plant control TPEM (Total Plant & Energy Management) system.

The TCG 3016 includes a fully integrated digital power plant control system known as TPEM. The TPEM enables optimum control and monitoring of the entire energy generation plant – eliminating the need for additional control systems.

TPEM can be customised to suit the needs of the customer and gas application, and will replace the TEM control system in all future MWM engines to deliver improved efficiency and flexibility.

With outputs ranging from 400kWe to 800kWe, the TCG 3016 reduces the cost of installation and entire plant operation. For example, the oil tanks are now integrated within the TCG 3016 genset, removing the need to be planned and installed separately, resulting in reduced installation costs due to a smaller setup area required.

Elsewhere, the TCG 3016’s generator is firmly flanged to the gas engine. As the vibration decoupling takes place directly between the components and the base frame, the setup costs are lower than other comparable gas engines. Through combustion optimisation, stress on key components has been reduced to ensure high availability and improved electrical efficiency.

Oil consumption has also been greatly reduced to <0.1 g/kWhe resulting in longer oil change intervals which reduces serving costs. Service intervals for general overhaul have increase by 25% when compared with the TCG 2016, from 64,000 to 80,000 operating hours for natural gas applications.

The TCG 3016 genset is a robust and highly efficient entry into the new developments at MWM.
