MWM

District energy schemes through Combined Heat and Power (CHP) utilisation can play an important role in facilitating improved energy efficiency and reduced carbon emissions measures within residential, community, commercial and public premises, or mixed-use developments.

The MWM range of gas engines can be configured for CHP application to produce electricity and heat for community heating within district energy projects. Should there be a requirement for refrigeration and/or air conditioning then the MWM gas engine can be configured for Trigeneration whereby cooling can be provided via absorption chillers.

District CHP

London’s innovative Citigen District Heating Network is powered by an 8.6MWe trigeneration power plant located within the heart of London. The district CHP plant supplies heat and cooling to ten of the City’s properties via an underground pipe network spanning over two miles.

Gateshead District Energy Scheme is another innovative example of community CHP. The lauded and futuristic looking low carbon energy centre exports heat and power directly to residential and commercial customers via an underground network of heat pipes and high voltage ‘private-wire’ electricity cables.

The scheme is based on a gas fired CHP energy centre located in Baltic Business Quarter that generates electricity whilst capturing and supplying waste heat to buildings, in a process that is twice as efficient as conventional power stations.

Distributed Energy

Distributed technologies such as CHP and trigeneration are highly efficient at converting gas to power and because of their locality, eliminate efficiency loses incurred through the transmission and distribution of electricity through the electricity grid and local distribution networks.
