Energy Centre

Energy Centre CHP

An energy centre centralises the equipment required to meet the energy requirements of a large facility such as universities, hospitals and factories.  These energy centres would typically house electrical power and heat generating equipment such as combined heat and power (CHP) plants, boilers, either gas or diesel fuelled standby generators and electrical switch gear.

Infrastructure challenges

As the energy requirement of a facility grows it would face challenges to meet its needs with the existing infrastructure.  Sometimes it may also not be possible to put extra burden on the existing power infrastructure of the electricity grid and on-site generation is deemed as a sustainable solution.

Producing power on-site

CHP is considered as the best solution to the growing heat and electrical requirements of a facility.  This solution not only reduces the carbon foot print of the facility due to the efficiency of the CHP, it also helps to maintain a cost effective energy management plan resulting in financial benefits.

By having on-site generation, the reliance on the electricity grid decreases.  If required, the CHP plant can be designed to run in Island Mode operation, which is completely independent of the electrical grid.  On-site generation also provides an opportunity to export excess electrical power to the grid when the heat load of the facility exceeds the electrical load. This not only meets the on-site heat demand but also generates revenue from the sale of electrical power to the grid.

Our energy centre solution

As part of an energy centre power solution, we can provide:

Civil works

  • Site ground works
  • Foundation design
  • Building design
  • Underground drainage systems

  • Transformers and fault limiting reactors
  • HV and LV synchronising switchgear
  • Building services fit out (lighting, power, fire alarms, etc)
  • Power and control cabling installations
  • Interface with existing site infrastructures

  • Radiators
  • Boilers
  • Absorption chillers
  • Pumps
  • Chimney stack
  • Alternative cooling systems
  • Drainage systems
  • Ventilation systems
  • Supporting structures
  • Interface with existing site infrastructures

Building Management System (BMS)

As part of our CHP energy management solution, the CHP energy data is directly integrated within the clients site BMS which provides real-time information on the performance of the plant for maximum utilisation.
